Recently I have taken part in a number of interesting discussions in which the phrase 'find your truth' was used. Language is a very powerful thing. The words which we habitually pay attention to, both in our own minds and when listening to others, serve to make up our mental map of the world. Language serves as a filter of reality. The thought patterns you choose to listen to consistently are the very patterns which make up what you consistently refer to as 'your self' and 'your life'.
I want to raise the possibility that the phrase 'find your truth' may to some be very misleading. First of all it implies that truth can be personal.
I would like to contend that truth can never be personal. Truth is by definition universal. Anything personal is just a personal interpretation, a point of view. The 'person' itself is just an interpretation, a story we keep telling ourselves about ourselves. Imagine a person 'John Smith'. Inside the mind of John will be a character which John habitually refers to as 'me'. This is just an arbitrary collection of memories, ideals, thoughts and desires. The character will change from one moment to the next depending on what thoughts and desires happen to be listened to. Every other 'person' that has ever interacted with John Smith will form in their minds a different character and attach to that character the name John Smith. Each character will be different. Hundreds of different versions of John Smith. All made up. All just stories.
Secondly, the idea that this 'truth' needs to be 'found' suggests that it already exists somewhere (either outside or inside ourselves) and that we have to keep searching for it or perhaps patiently waiting until it just shows up one day.
But what if your personal 'truth' is not ready made? Perhaps it is not patiently waiting somewhere to be 'found'. Perhaps this is why people perpetually keep on seeking and searching until the end of their days.
I suggesst that you have to write your story. YOU have to CREATE your story. You have to DECIDE who you are going to be in every present moment. If you keep on searching or waiting for this 'truth' to turn up one day, then the chances are you will not be getting on with your creation. You will also not be free to create whatever story you want, and change its direction whenever you want.
On the level of the person I suggest replacing the phrase 'find your truth' with the phrase 'create your story' so that you do not forget that you are not a seeker, but a creator.
No story is right or wrong. No story is better or worse. It is your story. Unique. Incomparable. Have fun with your wonderful creation. Be proud to show its unique qualities to the world.
Beyond the dimension of thought, you already ARE Truth. Always have been. Always will be. Eternal. Whole. Complete. Right here, right now. No need to find anything. No need to prove anything to anyone. No need to make something of yourself.
Truth is who you are. There's nothing to worry about, ever. You cannot take a wrong turn. You cannot make a wrong decision. All is free choice. Relax and have fun creating your unique and wonderful story.
