Teacher: If you work hard at this and achieve success, then you will be happy.
Child: But I am already happy, Miss
Teacher: No no! That will not do! You must work hard so that you deserve to be happy!
Child: Are you sure, Miss? I really do seem to be happy already. Honest, Miss.
Teacher: No, no no! You are missing the point! There is nothing like the euphoria of achievement!
Child: What does euphoria mean, Miss?
Teacher: It is a very short-lived very high feeling.
Child: Oh, a bit like taking drugs, Miss?
Teacher: No! No! It isn't like taking drugs. Do not take drugs. Those are bad for you. This temporary short-lived high is good for you.
Child: And what happens when the euphoria is over, Miss?
Teacher: Then you go onto more and more achievements!
Child: A bit like taking more and more drugs, Miss?
Teacher: Go and stand in the corner!
"To be somebody means creating anxieties in a silent pool, ripples and waves. The greater the ambition, the more tidal is the wave of anxiety."
