New Buzz Words, Same Old Con-Trick (by Swifty Flame-Anderson)
"People of this world are deluded. They're always longing for something - always, in a word, seeking." Bodhidharma
Hello again, fellow consciousness bubbles. Please join me, if you wish, in a short guided imagination.
Imagine that you are in relaxed state, going about whatever it is you happen to be going about, and you are suddenly accosted as a well-meaning, but perhaps rather naive thought bundle sidles up beside you and begins to shout:-
"CHEER UP! CHEER UP! CHEER UP! CHEER UP!"
Perhaps your mother has just died. Perhaps your boyfriend has just failed to notice your incredible new haircut. Perhaps you unexpectedly had to spend some time with a politician. A cheery emotion might be considered thoroughly unnatural. I have a feeling that a little bit of irritation might be added to whatever emotion was naturally being felt.
Now imagine there is a very subtle snake-oil salesperson. Perhaps this salesperson is pretending that they can channel a multi-dimensional entity. Perhaps they have given that imaginary entity a name from the Bible to give it a bit of gravitas. Maybe Moses or Isiah. Perhaps instead of the very coarse 'CHEER UP!', they have invented some new expressions such as 'manifestation', 'raise your vibration' and 'vortex'. Perhaps they are promising an incredibly bright future, so incredibly bright and brilliant it sounds just a little bit like ..... heaven?
But you are not fooled, are you? You will not spend your money on several books which simply repeat 'cheer up' in thousands of different ways on hundreds of pages. You will not spend hundreds of dollars attending a seminar at which you and a small crowd are repeatedly told to cheer up. That would be rather daft, wouldn't it?
"But I went to that seminar. I did cheer up! It worked. It was amazing! I felt so euphoric."
How long did that last for? I have heard that those who choose to take heroin report a very similar experience. But they have to keep coming back. One hit is just never enough. They have to keep coming back for more.....
Beware the Shiny Future Sellers in their new disguise. We have rumbled the clerics. We have rumbled the politicians. Of course, a new disguise was required to take in the new discerning generations.
New buzz-words. Same old con-trick.
OK, that is the end of the imagination. Now will you all just jolly well cheer up!
"The original source of all tension is 'becoming'. One is always trying to be something; no one is at ease with himself as he is. The being is not accepted, the being is denied, and something else is taken as an ideal to become. So the basic tension is always between that which you are, and that which you long to become." Osho
