When watching science fiction, reading about possible supernatural events, or exploring spirituality, we often hear talk of accessing another dimension. This is a concept which is very difficult for most of us to understand, precisely because we are used to only 3 spatial dimensions. In this marvellous extract from his TV series Cosmos, Carl Sagan explains what it would be like if beings living only in 2 dimensions encountered one of us. His wonderful explanation helps give us a glimpse of possibilities beyond what we normally encounter in every day life.
