"You are 13.75 billion years old," said the scientist.
"Really? What is a year?" the Universe asked.
"It is the time it takes or the Earth to orbit the sun," the scientist answered.
"But the Earth and the Sun have only been around for a short while, so what was a year before that?" the Universe asked further.
"Well, obviously we are extrapolating backwards from our position here on the Earth and using a convenient local measurement for the extrapolation."
"I see. And which way is backwards?" asked the universe.
"Well, in this particular case it is towards the Big Bang. The opposite direction of expansion. Contraction. Towards singularity."
"OK.....What reason is there to suppose that singularity is only in one direction?" the Universe asked further.
"I'll get my supervisor," said the scientist.
