He never understood
Why he'd fallen out for good,
Fallen out of love with Life.
She'd turned from lover into wife.
He'd hung on every word
Of encouragement he'd heard
When they said, "Go out and grab it!"
But those thrills soon turned to habit.
Life said, "Let's try to make it work."
And he wasn't one to shirk
His responsibility,
So he went along to see
Several life coaches and gurus
And he read the gospel good news,
But none of that was any use,
It was just more substance abuse.
Every one of them he'd try
Offered a temporary high,
But hangover always loomed,
It seemed their partnership was doomed.
