She asked me why I love her
I said: I cannot say.
For if I choose some reasons
I’d be throwing love away.
She told me why she loved me
I said: that is not love.
For love requires no reasons
As such things love is above.
She asked how much I love her
That makes no sense, I sighed.
Something which is infinite
Cannot be quantified.
She said how much she loved me
I caught her by surprise
As I touched my finger to her lips
And looked into her eyes.
You do not need to tell me that
No figure can apply.
There cannot be a number
And there cannot be a why.
We either love or we do not
And when we do we know
That into such analyses
There is no need to go.
No need to spoil the moment
With the ‘how much’ and the ‘whys’
I know that love is there inside
I see it through your eyes.
Give the mind a little rest
And join me in this gaze
Its power is astonishing
Its mystery will amaze.
And just for a few moments
You will start to comprehend
That love is unconditional
And love it has no end.
