So This Is Supposed To Be The End? (by Simon Drew)
[The following word whirlwind was kindly shared with us by Happy Cow's good friend Simon Drew. When he is not busy inventing new gases, Simon can be found challenging the Riverdance cast to a sudden-death dance-off, catching himself unawares, cold-calling snowmen and running the online groups English Stuff and International Monthly Hatstand Day. So this is supposed to be the end?
But what can end which had no beginning?
these rules were made for us
but we're not us
so watch them drift on by
laugher and tears will come when they want
even the shadows defy the sun
I'll breath in the ocean
and breath out a waterfall of stars
Leave those voices be
let them echo off mountains always searching for heaven
there is no place which can hold us for a moment
not the ocean
not the sky
not the valley
or the river
give up this mind of glass
and let it shatter
let all the shards reflect the moon and sun
of yesterday, today and tomorrow
all at once
let them go where they will
there was a never a moment they didn't anyway
let go this tiny stream of vapour
forget these intentions left in the oven too long
the sun has followed me home
and now all the temporary things
are infused with the real
the toothpaste infused with a dog chasing a ball in the park
the sink full of the boogie board with the torn cover by the footpath
let the bubbles and their rainbows pop
hold onto nothing and it will drag through the 10,000 worlds
and leave you gasping at every turn
just, for a moment, see these eyes
and you'll know
forever is walking always through your skin
"Have you already discovered the beginning that you are now asking about the end? For where the beginning is, there the end will be too. Blessed is he who will stand at the beginning, and he will know the end and he will not taste death." Jesus Christ (Gnostic Gospel of St Thomas)
